As the Thanksgiving season arrives, we’re reflecting on what matters most: you, our Members. We’re grateful that you’ve chosen to be part of our Credit Union family and trusted us to help you live your best financial life. Your loyalty inspires us every day to keep improving the ways we serve your financial goals.
Ways to give back this Thanksgiving.
A cherished Thanksgiving tradition is sharing gratitude, not only around the table but also through acts of kindness. This time of year offers countless opportunities to give back to your community, whether it’s:
- Volunteering to prepare and serve meals to those in need
- Donating to your local food bank
- Sending care packages or letters to military personnel
- Offering a helping hand to a neighbor or friend
You can also support your community by visiting your local FIGFCU branch. The following will be collecting donations for local charitable organizations:
- Grand Rapids, MI: Donate your clean, empty aluminum soda cans for recycling. The branch will recycle them and donate 100% of the proceeds to Covenant House, which provides transitional housing for homeless youth in Grand Rapids.
- Merced, CA: Drop off canned food at the branch through November 24, to support the Merced County Food Bank. Members who bring in 5 or more canned food items will be entered to win a holiday SWAG basket.
- Oklahoma City, OK: Through November 21, drop off new or gently used coats and canned or prepackaged food in support of City Center, an organization dedicated to helping youth and families in under-resourced communities throughout the city.
- Phoenix, AZ: Bring in canned goods, hygiene items, pet food, diapers, and cleaning supplies to the branch in support of Boxes of HOPE, a food pantry that welcomes families to select the goods they need.
- Round Rock, TX: Donate new, unwrapped toys to support Toys for Tots. Toys will be given out to children for Christmas across Burnet, Llano, Blanco, Hays, Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, and Caldwell Counties to help make the season brighter. The branch is also accepting canned and prepackaged foods on behalf of Backpack Friends, who work with local Texas schools to identify at-risk children who may go hungry over the weekend. Each week, they discreetly deliver backpacks filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals, ensuring every child has food from Friday to Monday.
Every act of generosity, big or small, helps make the season brighter for others.
How to choose a charity you can trust.
If you plan to make a financial donation, it’s important to ensure your gift makes the greatest impact. We suggest using Charity Navigator, a trusted nonprofit organization that evaluates charities based on their finances, accountability, and transparency. With this resource, you can confidently choose organizations that align with your values and use donations effectively.
