Six Easy Ways to Save Money Without Sacrificing Your Lifestyle

0

In today’s economy, it’s wise to do what you can to save money.

The potential downside? Many people are afraid of sacrificing the things they enjoy in order to keep more cash in their pockets. Fortunately, there are many ways to save money without having to give up the lifestyle you enjoy. These include planning with our free Financial Wellness Check.

Here are some easy ways to save money without feeling the pinch.

Shopping Lists

Going to the store without an idea of what you want is a good way to waste money. If you don’t have a shopping list, you’ll probably make costly impulse buys. You might even forget to buy something that you really needed, causing you to waste time and gas on a second trip! Be sure to make that shopping list before you go.

Coupons

If you don’t check for coupons and deals, you are throwing away money. Although most coupons are low value, small amounts add up quickly. If you do a lot of shopping online, you should also search for online coupons or promo codes before you reach the checkout. Most online retailers have deals for free shipping and discounts year-round. And here’s another smart way to save. Round It Up rounds up your Debit Card transactions to the nearest dollar, and moves that “small change” to a designated savings account. It adds up quickly to a nice lump sum. And, this service is free at the Credit Union!

Shop Around

It’s important that you shop around before making purchases, particularly on big-ticket items. Many search engines have features that let you compare prices among retailers. Many retailers also have price-matching, (matching a competitor’s price).

Pack Lunch Ahead of Time

Eating out is one of the most common ways to spend lots of money over time without realizing. Not only is it more expensive, but it also tends to be less healthy. Prepare meals ahead of time for work or school. And many offices and cafeterias have microwaves for your use, so you’re not limited to cold lunches.

Buy Used

Many people are turned off by the idea of buying something used. They think these products might be unclean or defective. Truth is, most people barely use the things they own. These “gently” used items often wind up at thrift stores or outlets like eBay. If you buy used items instead of new ones, you can get great deals on items that are almost as good as new.

Drive Less

With gas prices continually skyrocketing, driving can end up being a huge expense. And chances are that you aren’t helping.  Do you really need to drive around the corner to the store? If you need to travel a short distance, walk. If you have to go somewhere moderately far, then bike or even use an electric rental scooter. You’ll spend less money, and be healthier.

If you do have to drive, be sure you’re not overpaying for your car. Check with the Credit Union for a low-rate auto loan on new and used cars, or refi your current loan for a better rate.

As you can see, you don’t need to make huge sacrifices to save cash. If you use your time and money judiciously, you could save hundreds of dollars a year without compromising your quality of life. And a little professional advice can also go a long way. Sign up for a free, relaxed Financial Wellness Check with one of our experienced Branch Counselors.
